The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that St. Louis Cardinals Minor League third baseman Alan Ahmady has received a 50-game suspension after testing positive for an amphetamine, a performance-enhancing substance, in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension of Ahmady will be effective at the start of next season.

The Fresno State University product hit .292 with three homers and 32 RBIs as a New York-Penn League All-Star with Class A short-season Batavia in 2009.

He was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 11th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft. He is the 73rd Minor Leaguer to be suspended since the beginning of the 2009 season.
