Clinton, IA - Right-hander Aaron Pribanic scattered three hits over six scoreless innings, combining with Jose Jimenez and Matt Renfree on a five-hit shutout as the Clinton LumberKings claimed a 5-0 victory over the Kane County Cougars at Alliant Energy Field.
Pribanic (W, 7-4) allowed only one baserunner to reach second base over his six innings, walking one while striking out three. The outing was his longest since beating Beloit with a 6.1-inning performance on May 15.
The LumberKings backed him with early offense, scoring all five runs in the first three innings off Cougars' starter Shawn Haviland. Luis Nunez reached on an infield single with one out in the first and moved to third as Scott Savastano and Kris Sanchez both reached to load the bases. Steve Moss delivered the game's first run with a sacrifice fly to center, plating Nunez.
Clinton tacked on two more runs in the second inning as Nate Tenbrink roped a double to the right-field corner and scored on a groundout by Blake Ochoa. Daniel Carroll reached on an infield single, stole second and scored as Cougars' shortstop Carlos Arrieche mishandled a chopper off the bat of Nunez.
Ochoa made it a 5-0 game in the third, ripping a two out, two-run double to left. Moss and Tenbrink both scored as Ochoa recorded his first three-RBI night of the season.
Haviland (L, 6-4) allowed five runs, four earned on a total of six hits over 4.0 innings for Kane County. Relievers Jamie Richmond and Trey Barham did not yield any further runs over the final 4.0 innings.
Nunez (2-for-4) and Moss (2-for-3) each finished with multi-hit games for the LumberKings. Leonardo Gil had the only multi-hit game for Kane County, going 2-for-2 in his first game as a Cougar.
The LumberKings (5-4) continue the four-game series with the Kane County Cougars (4-5) tomorrow night at Alliant Energy Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at www.kcln.com.
