The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced Tuesday that Kansas City Royals' Minor League infielder Jason Taylor has received a 50-game suspension after testing positive for a drug of abuse in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Taylor ranked among the top players in the Midwest League with Class A Burlington in 2008. He finished first in walks (81), second in runs (79), fourth in steals (40) and fifth in on-base percentage (.372). Taylor hit .242 with 17 homers and 58 RBIs and was named Midwest League Player of the Week for the week of April 28.

Taylor was the Royals' second-round pick, 45th overall, in the June 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, Va. His suspension will be effective at the start of the 2009 season.
