Royals add Barrera to 40-man roster

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Royals today announced their winter 40-man Major League roster. The Royals have selected right-handed pitcher Henry Barrera to the 40-man roster and designated left-handed pitcher Tyler Lumsden for assignment.

Barrera, 22, spent 2008 with Wilmington (Class A), recording a 0-3 record with four saves while posting a 2.81 ERA in 42 relief appearances.

The 6-foot, 205-pound right-hander tossed 57.2 innings, allowing just 47 hits, 18 earned runs and two home runs while walking 24 and striking out 78. Barrera has struck out 184 and walked just 65 in 159.0 innings in four Minor League seasons in the Royals system. Born in Montebello, Calif., the Royals fifth round selection in the 2004 draft currently resides in Rosemead, Calif.

The 25-year old Lumsden was 3-13 with a 7.21 ERA in 28 outings, including 18 starts, for Omaha (Triple-A) in 2008. The 6-foot-4 left-hander is currently pitching for Carolina in the Puerto Rican Winter League.
