ValleyCats Release 2008 Promotional Calendar
14 fireworks shows, Tri-City Mayor's Bobblehead Doll Nights and The 2008 National Grid New York-Penn League All-Star Game highlight the 2008 lineup.

TROY, N.Y. - The Tri-City ValleyCats, last year's recipient of the New York-Penn League's Larry MacPhail Award for the most outstanding promotional work throughout the season, have released their 2008 Promotional calendar. The new lineup features even more excitement, highlighted by 14 spectacular fireworks shows, a Tri-City Mayor's Bobblehead Series, Going Green Night and the 2008 National Grid New York-Penn League All-Star Game.

The ValleyCats kick off the season on Friday, June 20 against the Oneonta Tigers. All fans in attendance will receive a ValleyCats 2008 Schedule Magnet presented by Garelick Farms.

The Post-Game Fireworks Shows, return on Friday, June 27 for the first of an all-time ValleyCats record 14 shows. Celebrate the Fourth of July all week with Independence Week Fireworks, a three-day fireworks extravaganza on July 2nd, 3rd and 4th. The other fireworks dates include: Thursday July 10, Monday July 14, Tuesday July 29, Saturday August 2, Wednesday August 6, Wednesday August 13, Tuesday August 19 (All-Star Game), Monday August 25, Sunday August 31 and the season finale on Saturday September 6.

This season, the ValleyCats are launching the Tri-City Mayor's Bobblehead Series, featuring the Mayors from Albany, Troy and Schenectady. The first 1,500 fans through the gates on each of these three nights will receive a hand crafted, hand carved seven-inch ceramic Bobblehead replica of the Capital Region's community leaders. On Monday June 30, fans will receive an Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings Bobblehead, presented by CDTA. The Bobblehead series continues on Wednesday July 9, when Troy Mayor Harry Tutunjian is honored. Schenectady Mayor Brian Stratton rounds out the Bobblehead series on Monday July 28, when a Bobblehead in his likeness will be distributed, courtesy of MVP Health Care.

Other giveaway nights include Softballs, sponsored by Waste Management (August 1) and Baseball Card Strips (August 24). Two used cars will be given away game show-style on Used Car Night presented by DeNooyer Chevrolet (August 25). Also, the ValleyCats will be giving away collectable posters on Team Poster Night (August 26), and a ¾ carat diamond during the Diamond Dig, presented by Northeastern Fine Jewelry (August 31).

Mascot Zoggy has changed his skin color from purple to green for the season, as a summer-long initiative of environmental awareness will be highlighted on Going Green Night, Wednesday July 30. Advocacy groups, organizations and various community leaders will be asked to participate in a pre-game panel discussion on the environment open to the general public and media. The ValleyCats will showcase fuel efficient hybrid vehicles and give away items such as eco-friendly reusable shopping bags and other products all designed to help people consume less, preserve natural resources and save money. Verizon Wireless will be presenting a cell phone recycling program, as incentives will be offered in exchange for the unwanted electronics.

Several promo nights will show off the best food, music and local talent of the Capital Region. Some of these themes include April Fools Day in July (July 1), Guitar Hero Night (July 11), Texas BBQ Night (July 12), Halloween (July 13), Superheroes Night (July 20), Thanksgiving (July 31) Italian Night (August 6), Parrothead Night (August 7), The Olympics (August 8), Irish Night (August 12) and Christmas in August (August 25).

Take a trip down memory lane during the decade-themed nights. The games will feature music and trivia from the past, capped off with post-game fireworks. Themes include 50's Night (July 10), 60's Night (July 14), 70's Night (August 2), 80's Night (August 8), 90's Night (August 13) and 00's Night (August 31).

Other specialty events include two Jersey Auctions (July 3, September 6), an 11:00am start time (July 21), Scout Night Sleepover (August 8) and Bark in the Park Night (August 30), the only time you can bring your dog to see the 'Cats.

The 2008 season features the return of all the ValleyCats mascots. SouthPaw is once again joined by his grandfather Pappy SouthPaw, Spiedie the Chicken, The Tooth Fairy, The Hot Dog Racers and Zoggy. Pappy SouthPaw will celebrate his 99th Birthday (June 22) while Spiedie the Chicken celebrates his 1st (June 29).

Weekly promotions are back as well, such as Two-for-Tuesdays where fans can enjoy 2-for-the-price-of-1 select draft beer and soda specials and Thursty Thursdays with discounted beer and soda products, all summer long. On any of the seven Family Day Sundays, fans can still purchase the Family 4-Pack (4 tickets, 4 sodas & 4 hot dogs for $25), participate in a pre-game catch on the field or run the bases post-game.

In what could be the most anticipated event of the season, National Grid is sponsoring the fourth-ever New York-Penn League All-Star Game. The festivities include a Troy Riverfront All-Star Fan Fest on Monday, August 18 at 5pm. Live music, ballpark food and family entertainment will celebrate the arrival of Major League baseball's potential future stars to the community in this free event. On Tuesday August 19, The New York-Penn League All-Star Game is set to become the first professional baseball All-Star Game in Capital Region history, as the National League takes on the American League. The pre-game All-Star Home Run Derby starts at 7:15pm and an astounding All-Star Fireworks showcase will follow the game.
