Mike Moore, Minor League Baseball president since 1992, is retiring when his term expires in December. All four candidates have been invited to meet with the Board at its Sept. 25 meeting. David Chase has been president/general manager of the Pacific Coast League's Memphis Redbirds since 2002. He began his affiliation with the Redbirds as a consultant in 1999. Chase has 30 years of experience working in baseball, including 18 with the publication Baseball America. Philip Evans is an attorney who recently formed the Evans Sports Group, a sports and entertainment consulting company. From April, 2001 to July, 2007, Evans worked for the National Basketball Association Development League, first as its director of legal & business affairs and then as its president. Jeremy Kapstein has been with the Boston Red Sox since 2002, and is currently the club's senior adviser/baseball projects. Before joining the Red Sox, Kapstein held various positions with the San Diego Padres, including chief executive officer and senior baseball consultant. Kapstein also spent more than 15 years as a player representative. Pat O'Conner is currently the vice president, administration & chief operating officer for Minor League Baseball, a position he has held since 1993. O'Conner served as the Houston Astros director of Florida operations and general manager of the Osceola Astros in the Florida State League from 1986-1993, and has been in baseball since 1981.
