Jed Lowrie, a switch-hitting infielder in the Boston Red Sox system, was the 45th pick in the 2005 draft out of Stanford University. Lowrie made his professional debut for the Lowell Spinners in the New York-Penn League. In 53 games, Lowrie hit .328 with four homers and 32 RBI. He also played in the NYP League's inaugural All-Star Game.

Houston Astros starting pitcher Jason Hirsh had a breakout season for Double-A Corpus Christi in 2005. Hirsh, a 2003 second round draft pick out of Division III Cal-Lutheran, was named the Texas League Pitcher of the Year after posting a 13-8 mark with a 2.87 ERA and 165 strikeouts in 29 starts for the Hooks.

Adam Jones, the 37th pick in the 2003 draft, began his professional with the Seattle Mariners as a shortstop. Last season, Jones hit a combined .297 with 15 homers and 66 RBI between Class A Inland Empire and Double-A San Antonio. Jones began a transition to the outfield during the 2005 Arizona Fall League season.

Matt Kemp, an outfielder in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, was named to the Florida State League postseason All-Star team in 2005 after hitting .306 with 27 homers and 90 RBI for Vero Beach. After the regular season, Kemp, a sixth round selection in 2003 out of Midwest City (OK) High School, went to the Arizona Fall League, where he hit .408.
