Comments
Fastball:Weathers was consistently hitting 96 mph on back-to-back nights.
Slider:Weather's second offering is also a plus pitch and he threw it in the 84-86 mph range, keeping hitters off balance. The slider was improved from previous season.
Control:While Weathers was dominant and was able to locate both pitches fairly well, his command is not where it needs to be for him to be thought of as a professional closer.
Poise:He pitched like a closer should, finishing off the victory against Rice on Friday and tossing two hitless innings in a tie game, getting the win.
Physical Description:Converted outfielder with power stuff out of bullpen.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:Two power offerings, durability as evidenced by back-to-back outings over weekend.
Weaknesses:Command needs improvement to close in future. His plane to the plate isn't great because he tends to drop and drive too frequently.
Summary:Weathers threw well, and did so on back-to-back nights, which is encouraging. With an improved slider and more performances like this, he'll start moving up draft boards.
