Dukes gives Dogs walk-off win

Elijah Dukes' three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Phoenix Desert Dogs a 10-7 victory over the Peoria Saguaros on Wednesday.

With the game knotted at 7-7, Fernando Perez and Cody Strait walked against Daniel Foli (0-2) to start the 10th before Dukes launched his second homer in seven AFL games.

The Desert Dogs (12-7) forced extra innings on Ben Zobrist's two-run homer in the ninth. It was the second time Phoenix tied the game. In the fifth, the Desert Dogs scored five times to forge a 5-5 deadlock.

Zobrist finished with two hits, two runs and three RBIs. Perez went 2-for-3 with three walks and two runs scored.

Corey Hamman (1-0) notched his first win after recording the last two outs in the top of the 10th. Starter Tyler Pelland surrendered five runs on nine hits and two walks in just two innings. Virgil Vasquez settled things down by tossing four hitless frames.

The Saguaros (8-11) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings. P. J. Pilittere had an RBI double in the second and a two-run double in the third. Eric Duncan snapped the 5-5 tie in the eighth with a run-scoring single.

Five members of the Saguaros had two hits apiece. Pilittere led the way with two doubles and three RBIs.

Peoria starter Jared Wells allowed one hit with three strikeouts and three walks in three scoreless innings. Mike Parisi was charged with three runs over 1 2/3 innings and Foli gave up five runs on two hits and four walks in the final frame to take the loss.
