Clevlen, Mud Hens slam Bisons
05/29/2008 10:57 PM ET
Toledo currently stands atop the Minor Leagues in home runs, with a variety of players teeing off regularly. Thursday night, Brent Clevlen got to be the hero.

Clevlen hit a first-inning grand slam on a career-high six-RBI night as the Toledo Mud Hens cruised past the Buffalo Bisons, 10-2, to snap a four-game losing streak.

After a leadoff single by Mike Hollimon and back-to-back walks to Mike Hessman and Tim Perez with one out, Clevlen deposited his eighth homer of the year over the center-field wall.

An inning later, Clevlen's ground-ball single to center scored Freddy Guzman and Hessman for a six-run advantage. He now has 42 for the season, one behind Jeff Larish for the team lead.

That was more than enough for former Major Leaguer Casey Fossum (3-0), who struck out 10 and allowed two runs -- one earned -- on three hits in 6 2/3 innings to earn the win.

Jackson Melian added a solo shot and had two RBIs for Toledo, who leads the Minors in home runs with 94. Hessman -- the individual long ball leader (20) -- singled, walked and scored three times.

Bisons starter Brian Slocum (3-4) struck out eight but was tagged for eight runs on seven hits and walked four in five innings for the loss.
