Player Journal: Another honor for LaPorta 05/15/2008 10:00 AM ETBy Matt LaPorta
Matt LaPorta, the former Florida Gators star, burst onto the scene in his pro debut in 2007 after being drafted seventh overall by the Milwaukee Brewers. He hit 12 homers in only 115 at-bats (30 games) to lead the Minors in HR/AB ratio, then went on to lead the Arizona Fall League with six more roundtrippers in 30 games. He also finished second in the AFL in RBIs and total bases. Hello, again, it's Matt LaPorta writing from the Huntsville Stars Double-A baseball team. I hope this journal finds everyone doing well. I am doing great and still adjusting to the rigors of playing baseball every day. It is hard to find time to do anything else other than baseball, but I am truly living a dream, and all the hard work is worth it. Our team continues to be doing well and playing very hard. As a team, we play with so much heart and enthusiasm and it really is fun to be with these guys on the field. A little information on me since the last time that I wrote here is that I earned a second Hitter of the Week award, which again is a huge honor because there are so many great hitters in this league. I have to thank my teammates for the award, too, because if it was not for them getting on base and doing their job, I couldn't have received this.
This team is filled with so many great hitters and I am thankful to be on a team that is so good and can really put a charge into the ball. Our record this season is 27-11 and we are currently in first place. Here is the team's website so you guys can check out the stats and whatever else you would like to look at. That's all for this week. I hope that you enjoyed reading this journal and best of luck to all of you and your endeavors.
Verses of the week:
Proverbs 13:10 God bless. P.S. -- If anyone has something they would like me to be praying for, feel free to email the request to me. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
