Burnett strong in rehab start for Syracuse

Rehabbing Toronto hurler A.J. Burnett pitched well enough to win Monday, but had to settle for a no-decision as his Syracuse eventually defeated host Ottawa, 5-4, in 13 innings.
Burnett, who has been on the disabled list since June 29 due to a shoulder injury, allowed a run on three hits over five innings while striking out seven. The 29-year-old, who struck out six of the first seven batters he faced, left the game after throwing 66 pitches -- 45 for strikes.
Burnett departed with a 3-1 lead, but the Lynx (44-72) tied the game, 4-4, in the eighth inning on the strength of Gary Burnham's three-run homer.
The contest remained deadlocked until Syracuse (53-62) plated a run in the top of the 13th. Sergio Santos' two-out RBI single scored Mike Vento, who doubled to lead off the frame.
Lee Gronkiewicz (2-1), the last of six Syracuse pitchers, tossed two scoreless innings for the win.
Joeseph Bisenius (1-3) came on to pitch the 13th for the Lynx and suffered the loss, allowing a run on three hits. Starter Matt Childers surrendered four runs on 10 hits over 6 1/3 innings. Anderson Garcia, Brian Sanches and Kane Davis combined to toss 5 2/3 shutout frames.
The Chiefs jumped to a 3-0 lead in the fourth. John Ford-Griffin ripped his 23rd home run with two outs in the frame and Vento then singled. Chad Mottola followed with a two-run dinger to right field.
The Lynx finally got on the board in the fifth, as Gookie Dawkins doubled and eventually scored on Danny Sandoval's groundout.
