Petit almost flawless for 'Topes

Yusmeiro Petit continued his push toward the big leagues with a sterling performance on Saturday as the Albuquerque Isotopes shut down the New Orleans Zephyrs, 3-0.
Petit (2-0), a key player in the trade that sent Carlos Delgado from Florida to the New York Mets, shut down the Zephyrs for seven innings. He allowed two hits, struck out five and did not walk a batter.
The 21-year-old right-hander was perfect through five innings before Greg Thissen dumped a flare into center field for a one-out single in the sixth. He lowered his ERA to 2.70.
For his efforts on Saturday, Petit was named the MiLB.com Star of the Day.
This outing was considerably better than Petit's previous start, when he surrendered six runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings against New Orleans (10-6) on Monday.
Brad Clontz struck out the side in the ninth for his second save.
The Isotopes (11-6) wasted little time getting on the board, scoring in the first inning on Mark Little's sacrifice fly. They tacked on two runs in the third on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Drew Niles.
Jason Stokes singled, walked and scored a run for Albuquerque.
Reggie Fitzpatrick had the only other hit for New Orleans as Larry Broadway saw his 13-game hitting streak end with an 0-for-3 performance.
Kyle Denney (0-1) suffered the loss, yielding one run on two hits and three walks in two innings.
