Mets let veteran Cordero go

Major League veteran Wil Cordero was released on Sunday by the Mets organization.

The Mets signed Cordero to a Minor League contract on July 30, five days after he was released by the Nationals. In Washington, he hit .118 (6-for-51) with no home runs, two RBIs and 14 strikeouts.

In eight games at Triple-A Norfolk, the 33-year-old first baseman batted .129 (4-for-31) with no homers, two RBIs and 11 strikeouts.

In 14 Major League seasons with seven different teams, including three different stints with the Montreal/Washington franchise, Cordero has 122 homers, 566 RBIs and a .273 batting average.
