Curve's Corley honored by Pirates

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Altoona Curve outfielder Brad Corley was recently recognized by the Pittsburgh Pirates for his outstanding community involvement during the 2008 baseball season. Brad was one of six Minor Leaguers to be recognized as the winner of a "Pirates Community Commitment Award," prior to last Friday's game at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

While players at all levels of the Pirates' organization are required to perform at least 10 hours of community service each season, Brad went well beyond that commitment, completing 17 total hours throughout the Central and Western Pennsylvania region. Included in his many community appearances were visits to Claysburg Elementary School, the Miracle League of Blair County, the Hollidaysburg YMCA, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the American Cancer Society. He also assisted "Dreams Go On," an organization that provides a therapeutic horseback riding program for children with special needs.

"Brad was a joy to work with during his many community appearances, because he went above and beyond what was required, showed up on time, never complained and genuinely cared about the individuals and organizations he was visiting," said Elsie Zengel, Curve director of community relations. "Though Brad was chosen as the Curve's winner of the Pirates Community Commitment Award, there were so many other players who also deserve to be recognized for their outstanding and dedicated efforts in assisting with our community outreach."

One player from each of the Pirates' six Minor League affiliates was selected as a winner of a "Community Commitment Award." The other winners were Neil Walker (Indianapolis), Jared Keel (Lynchburg), Austin McClune (Hickory), Josue Peley (State College) and Jean Garavito (Bradenton).

The Curve will continue to be very active in the community throughout the offseason, and are actively seeking organizations to partner with on community and charity programs. Organizations interested in partnering with the Curve, or having the club involved in an upcoming event, should contact Elsie Zengel at (814) 943-5400, ext. 129, or ezengel@altoonacurve.com.
