Get The Broom...'Wolves Sweep Baysox 05/10/2009 4:50 PM ETMiLB.com
The SeaWolves held off a late charge on Sunday by the Bowie Baysox as they completed a three-game sweep with a 6-5 win at Jerry Uht Park. Bowie struck first for the second straight day, plating a pair of runs in the top of the first against Erie starter Jonah Nickerson. Melvin Dorta tripled with one out and scored on a Paco Figueroa base hit. With two outs, Ambiorix Concepcion doubled home Figueroa for a 2-0 lead. Erie would strike back to take the lead in the bottom of the second against Ryan Keefer who was making a spot start for Bowie. Ryan Strieby led off with a base hit and Cale Iorg singled with one out to put a pair on for Deik Scram. Scram blasted a three-run home run over the wall in right for a 3-2 'Wolves lead. The home run for Scram was his fourth and Erie would never trail the remainder of the game. The 'Wolves added to the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Strieby led off and was hit by a pitch. Alex Avila then stepped in and quickly sent a ball over the wall in right for his first home run of the season and a 5-2 Erie lead. Bowie would cut the lead down to a pair of runs in the top of the fifth when Figueroa singled home Dave Krynzel with two outs, making it 5-3 'Wolves. In the bottom of the sixth, Erie would extend the lead back up to three runs. Scram walked with one out and stole second. Andy Dirks doubled down the left field line for his first Double-A hit, putting runners on second and third. Shawn Roof hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Scram, making it 6-3 Erie. In the top of the seventh Bowie would cut into the lead when Snyder singled home Krynzel with his third hit of the game against reliever Josh Kite. With two on base, Josh Rainwater would come in and induce a 6-4-3 double play to get out of the inning with no further damage. In the top of the ninth, Krynzel homered with one out to make it a 6-5 game against reliever Brett Jensen. Jensen, however, induced a game-ending 6-4-3 double play with the tying run on base to pick up his fourth save of the season. Nickerson (1-2) won his first game of the season going six strong innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts. The series sweep was Erie's fourth of the season.
